Baseball Recap: Girard Comes Up Short

Girard was not able to break out of their rough patch on Monday as the team picked up their third straight loss. They were two runs away from ending the streak, but they lost an 8-6 heartbreaker at the hands of the Austintown-Fitch Falcons.

Will Hynes made the most of his time at bat despite the final result and got on base in two of his four plate appearances with three stolen bases and two runs. Girard is 9-2 when Hynes posts two or more runs, but 4-9 otherwise.

Girard's defeat dropped their record down to 13-11. As for Austintown-Fitch, their win bumped their record up to 10-15.

Girard and Austintown-Fitch could both be facing uphill battles in their next games considering their disadvantage in the MaxPreps Ohio Rankings. The Indians (ranked 292nd) will meet Hubbard (ranked 139th) at 5:00 p.m. on Tuesday. Meanwhile, Austintown-Fitch will challenge Boardman at 5:00 p.m. on Tuesday with a big rank disadvantage (257 vs. 80).
