Softball Recap: Sylvania Comes Up Short

Sylvania fought the good fight in their extra-innings match against Cherokee County on Friday but wound up with a less-than-desirable result. They fell just short of the Warriors by a score of 4-3. Unfortunately, that's the second time they've come up short against the Warriors this season, as they also lost their prior matchup 14-0 back in March.

Braelyn Hastings spent all eight innings on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered just two earned (and two unearned) runs on ten hits. She has been nothing but reliable: she hasn't given up more than two walks in five consecutive appearances.

At the plate, Molly Weaver was cooking despite her team's loss, going 2-for-4 with one home run, one stolen base, and two RBI. She has been hot recently, having posted at least one stolen base the last three times she's played.

Sylvania's defeat ended a three-game streak of wins at home and dropped them to 10-17. As for Cherokee County, the victory (which was their third in a row) raised their record to 23-3.

Coming up, Sylvania will venture away from home to square off against Coosa Christian at 5:00 p.m. on Tuesday. Cherokee County does not have any more games scheduled as of now.
