Baseball Game Preview: Wapahani Raiders vs. Lapel Bulldogs

The Wapahani Raiders will take on the Lapel Bulldogs at 6:00 p.m. on Saturday. The two teams have allowed few runs on average (Wapahani 3.1, Lapel 2.6) so any runs scored will be well earned.

Wapahani is on a roll after a high-stakes playoff matchup on Monday. Their pitcher stepped up to hand Eastbrook a 4-0 shutout. The victory was familiar territory for the Raiders, who have now won three games in a row.

Wapahani's win was truly a team effort as four different players contributed at least one hit. One of them was Eli Andrews, who went 1-for-3 with two RBI and one double.

Meanwhile, Lapel got the win against Tipton on Monday by a conclusive 7-1. The result was nothing new for the Bulldogs, who have now won 20 matches by six runs or more so far this season.

Kai Newman spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: he surrendered a run (which was unearned) on one hit and racked up 15 Ks. He has been consistent for a while: he hasn't tossed less than six strikeouts in 11 consecutive appearances.

On the hitting side, the team relied heavily on Camden Novak, who went 2-for-4 with two stolen bases, one run, and one double. Hogan Bair was another key player, going 2-for-3 with one run, one double, and one RBI.

Lapel has been performing incredibly well recently as they've won 17 of their last 18 contests. That's provided a nice bump to their 27-2 record this season. Those victories came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 11.8 runs over those games. As for Wapahani, their win bumped their record up to 18-8.

Wapahani skirted past Lapel 6-4 when the teams last played back in May of 2024. Will the Raiders repeat their success, or do the Bulldogs have a new game plan this time around? We'll find out soon enough.
