Soccer Game Preview: Lincoln vs. Ankeny

The Lincoln Railsplitters will head out on the road to challenge the Ankeny Hawks on Wednesday. Lincoln will be looking to extend their current three-game winning streak.

On Friday, Lincoln beat Jefferson 3-1.

Meanwhile, after failing to score in their last matchup, Ankeny made sure to put some goals up on the board against Urbandale last Friday. Their defense stepped up to hand the J-Hawks a 6-0 shutout. The final result isn't all the surprising considering Ankeny's considerable advantage in MaxPreps' Iowa soccer rankings (they are ranked fourth, while Urbandale are ranked 59th).

Ankeny has been performing incredibly well recently as they've won four of their last five games. That's provided a nice bump to their 10-2-3 record this season. The wins came thanks in part to their defensive effort, having only given up one goal over those five contests. As for Lincoln, their victory bumped their record up to 6-13-1.

Lincoln suffered a grim 7-0 defeat to Ankeny in their previous meeting back in April of 2018. Can the Railsplitters avenge their defeat or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
