Softball Recap: North Eugene Highlanders vs. Thurston Colts
North Eugene extended their losing streak to five on Friday, dropping their season record down to 7-6 in the process. They came up short against the Thurston Colts, falling 11-5. Unfortunately, that's the second time they've come up short against the Colts this season, as they also lost their prior matchup 11-3 on Tuesday.
North Eugene saw five different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Gracie Hibler, who went 2-for-4 with one home run.
As for Thurston, their win was their ninth straight at home dating back to last season, which pushed their record up to 10-2. The home victories came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 10.7 runs over those games.
On Thurston's side, Kasey Ogan was a major factor while hitting and pitching. She looked comfortable on the mound, tossing seven innings while giving up three earned (and two unearned) runs off six hits. Ogan was also solid in the batter's box, going a perfect 3-for-3 with two RBI. Those three hits gave her a new career-high.
In other batting news, Rosie Montes was excellent, going a perfect 2-for-2 with two runs, one double, and one RBI. Syren Ferguson was another key player, going 2-for-3 with two runs and one RBI.
While North Eugene had to take the loss, they won't have to wait long to give it another shot: the pair will be back at it again later today.
