Basketball Game Preview: Millville Quakers vs. Canton Warriors

The Millville Quakers will venture away from home to take on the Canton Warriors at 7:15 p.m. on Monday. Given that both suffered a loss in their last games, they both have a little extra motivation heading into this contest.

On Saturday, Millville came up short against Sullivan County and fell 57-46. The loss continues a trend for the Quakers in their matchups with the Griffins: they've now lost eight in a row.

Meanwhile, Canton scored the most points they've had this season on Thursday, but it wasn't enough. They were just a bucket shy of victory and fell 48-47 to Cowanesque Valley. The Warriors have now taken an 'L' in back-to-back games.

Millville will have to keep a close watch on Ben Fitch and Talin Williams, a pair of players who had a big impact on Canton's prior game. Fitch dropped a double-double on 11 points and 12 rebounds, while Williams almost dropped a double-double on 16 points and nine rebounds. Fitch is on a roll when it comes to boards, as he's now pulled down nine or more in the last eight games he's played dating back to last season. Another player making a difference was Rylan Wesneski, who posted eight points.

Millville suffered their first home defeat, dropping their record down to 3-3. As for Canton, their loss dropped their record down to 2-2.

Millville didn't have too much breathing room in their game against Canton in their previous matchup back in December of 2023, but they still walked away with a 51-47 victory. One of the biggest obstacles the team faced in that game was Fitch, who dropped a double-double on 26 points and 21 rebounds. Now that he's got a second chance to win this matchup, will Millville still be able to contain Fitch? There's only one way to find out.
