Softball Recap: Benton Comes Up Short

Benton lost to Murphysboro back in April of 2023 and unfortunately they wound up with the same result on Thursday. The Rangers took a 5-2 hit to the loss column at the hands of the Red Devils. The Rangers have now taken an 'L' in back-to-back games.

Carlie James (2026) spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered four earned (and one unearned) runs on six hits.

On the hitting side, Jaycee Webb (2027) made the most of her time in the batter's box despite the final result and went 1-for-3 with one home run.

Benton's defeat dropped their record down to 6-15. As for Murphysboro, the victory snapped their losing streak at three games and leaves them with a 11-15 record.

Benton has already played their next contest, a 7-4 win against Pinckneyville on the 1st. As for Murphysboro, they also wasted no time getting back out on the field and have already played their next game, a 3-0 loss against Chester on the 4th.
