Softball Game Preview: Grainger Grizzlies vs. Volunteer Falcons

The Grainger Grizzlies will be defending their home field for the first time this season when they go up against the Volunteer Falcons at 5:30 p.m. on Thursday.

On Wednesday, Grainger didn't have quite enough to beat Union County and fell 5-4. The loss was the Grizzlies' first of the season.

Grainger saw five different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Destanee Davis, who scored a run while going 1-for-3.

Meanwhile, Volunteer had to travel to play their first game of the season, but the final result was worth the trip. Their pitcher stepped up to hand Claiborne a 13-0 shutout on Tuesday. The Falcons not only won on Tuesday, but they posted their biggest win since April 15, 2024.

Addyson Fisher made a big impact no matter where she played. She looked comfortable on the mound, keeping things locked down with no earned runs or hits while striking out 14 over five innings pitched. Fisher was also stellar in the batter's box, going 2-for-4 with one home run, three runs, and three RBI.

In other batting news, Zetta Smith was incredible, going 3-for-4 with three runs, three RBI, and one triple. Jayden Ford was another key player, scoring two runs and stealing a base while going 4-for-4.

Volunteer always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .526. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Claiborne only posted an OBP of .000.

Having lost for the first time this season, Grainger fell to 2-1. As for Volunteer, their win bumped their record up to 1-0.
