Basketball Recap: Leadore Comes Up Short

After soaring to 56 points the game before, Leadore was a bit more limited in their match on Friday. They were dealt a 59-22 defeat at the hands of Watersprings. While losing is never fun, the Mustangs can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' Idaho basketball rankings (they are ranked 133rd, while Watersprings are ranked 48th).

Despite the loss, Leadore saw an underclassman step up: sophomore Dane Piippo posted six points and five boards. Piippo is also on a roll when it comes to steals, as he's now grabbed two or more in each of the last 12 games he's played.

Leading Watersprings to victory were Korban Nelson and Titus Driver. Nelson went 10-for-17 on his way to 23 points and three steals, while Driver earned eight points in addition to nine rebounds and three steals. That's the most points Nelson has posted since back in December of 2024. Matthew Kinoshita was another key player, putting up six points and 13 boards.

Leadore's defeat dropped their record down to 8-12. As for Watersprings, their victory was their third straight at home, which pushed their record up to 18-3.

Coming up, Leadore will challenge Sho-Ban at 5:30 p.m. on Wednesday. As for Watersprings, they will square off against Mackay at 7:00 p.m. on Tuesday. Watersprings is strutting in with some offensive muscle as they've averaged 60.1 points per game this season.
