Baseball Recap: Mayfield Puts Losing Streak Behind Them

Mayfield came into Saturday's contest having lost five straight, but that streak is now in the rearview. They put the hurt on the Notre Dame Bishop Gibbons Golden Knights with a sharp 11-4 victory on Saturday. The high-scoring effort was just what the Panthers needed considering they were shut out in their previous matchup.

Carter Goodemote and Landon Conyne were major factors no matter where they played. Throwing, Goodemote tossed one inning while giving up no earned runs or hits. Meanwhile, Conyne tossed three innings while giving up just two earned (and one unearned) runs off four hits. What's more, he posted three strikeouts, the most he's had since back in April. At bat, Goodemote went 2-for-4 with one stolen base, one run, and one double, while Conyne went 1-for-3 with one stolen base, two RBI, and one run. That double was Goodemote's first of the season.

In other batting news, Aiden Horn (C) and Cubby Roth (C) did most of the damage at the plate: Horn (C) went a perfect 3-for-3 with seven stolen bases, two RBI, and one run, while Roth (C) got on base in three of his four plate appearances with five stolen bases, four runs, and one triple. Those five stolen bases gave Roth (C) a new career-high. Another player making a difference was Grady Shea, who went 2-for-4 with one stolen base, one run, and one double.

The win was their first at home , bumping their record up to 2-11. As for Notre Dame Bishop Gibbons, their loss was their 21st straight on the road dating back to last season, which dropped their record down to 1-14.

Coming up, Mayfield will take on Northville at 5:00 p.m. on Sunday. Notre Dame Bishop Gibbons does not have any more games scheduled as of now.
