The Buckhannon-Upshur Buccaneers will face off against the Woodrow Wilson Flying Eagles at 1:00 p.m. on Saturday. Both come into the matchup bolstered by wins in their previous matches.
On Friday, Buckhannon-Upshur earned a 7-2 win over Fairmont Senior. The victory continues a trend for the Buccaneers in their matchups with the Polar Bears: they've now won three in a row.
Becca Pastorius spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered two runs (both of which were unearned) on six hits and racked up ten Ks.
On the hitting side, the team relied heavily on Avery Hamer, who went 2-for-4 with four RBI and two runs. That's the most RBI she has posted since back in March of 2024. Another player making a difference was Kynnedy Marple, who scored three runs and stole a base while going 1-for-3.
Meanwhile, Woodrow Wilson waltzed into their game on Friday with two straight wins... but they left with three. They narrowly escaped with a win as the squad sidled past the Warriors 10-8.
Woodrow Wilson also let their pitcher toss all seven innings and she was also dialed-in: Karlie Fraley gave up four earned (and four unearned) runs on seven hits and racked up six Ks.
At the plate, Hadley Reott was incredible, scoring three runs and stealing three bases while getting on base in three of her four plate appearances. She continues to improve, besting her previous point total in each of the last three games she's played. Rose Tucker was another key player, scoring a run and stealing a base while going 2-for-3.
Buckhannon-Upshur's victory was their third straight on the road, which pushed their record up to 6-5. The road wins came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 10.3 runs over those games. As for Woodrow Wilson, they now have a winning record of 7-6.
The batters for both teams will have to hit smart on Saturday as both have some strikeout artists on the roster. Buckhannon-Upshur has been retiring batters left and right this season, having averaged 6.7 strikeouts per game. However, it's not like Woodrow Wilson struggles in that department as they've been averaging an even more impressive 10.6 strikeouts. Considering how easily both teams rack up Ks, the hitters on both teams better bring their A-game into this one.
