Recap: Veterans Memorial Chargers vs. Weslaco Panthers

The Veterans Memorial Chargers had already won three in a row (a stretch where they outscored their opponents by an average of 40.7 points), and they went ahead and made it four on Saturday. They narrowly escaped with a victory as the squad sidled past Weslaco 41-39. This was payback for Veterans Memorial, who suffered a 57-35 defeat the last time these two teams met.

Veterans Memorial's win was a true team effort, with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Brianna Brackhahn, who scored 12 points along with 5 rebounds. The team also got some help courtesy of Daniela Sauceda, who scored 6 points along with 14 rebounds and 3 blocks.

Veterans Memorial's victory bumped their record up to 9-2. As for Weslaco, their defeat dropped their record down to an identical 9-2.

Veterans Memorial's road trip will continue as they head out to face Edinburg at 4:00 p.m. on November 18th. Edinburg knows how to get points on the board -- the team has finished with flashy point totals in its past four games -- so hopefully Veterans Memorial likes a good challenge. Weslaco will get a bit of extra time to process the loss as their next game is a ways off. They'll take on Mission at 12:00 p.m. on November 28th.
