Given the Mustangs' advantage in MaxPreps' Texas basketball rankings (they are ranked 143rd, while the Panthers are ranked 673rd), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.

Meanwhile, Tompkins got the win against Katy on Friday by a conclusive 56-33. The Falcons pushed the score to 46-16 by the end of the third, a deficit the Tigers cut but never quite recovered from.

Katy Taylor has been performing well recently as they've won 17 of their last 21 matches, which provided a nice bump to their 24-7 record this season. Those victories came thanks to their offensive performance across that stretch, as they averaged 67.1 points per game. As for Tompkins, their win ended a five-game drought on the road and puts them at 20-14.

Katy Taylor strolled past Tompkins in their previous meeting back in January by a score of 77-63. The rematch might be a little tougher for Katy Taylor since the team won't have the home-court advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
