Softball Recap: Woodrow Wilson Takes a Loss

Woodrow Wilson fought the good fight in their extra-innings matchup against Shady Spring on Monday but wound up with a less-than-desirable result. They fell just short of the Tigers by a score of 4-2. Having soared to a lofty ten runs in the game before, the Flying Eagles couldn't push the score so high this time.

Aubrey Smallwood spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered three earned (and one unearned) runs on five hits and racked up 18 Ks. She has been consistent for a while: she hasn't tossed less than six strikeouts in 14 consecutive appearances.

On the hitting side, Woodrow Wilson saw four different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Shailee Sexton, who went 2-for-3 with one stolen base and one run. Rose Tucker was another, going 2-for-3 with one double.

Woodrow Wilson has been struggling recently as they've lost four of their last five contests. That's put a noticeable dent in their 11-11 record this season. As for Shady Spring, the win made it two in a row for them and bumps their season record up to 9-8.
