Deer Valley gave their fans exactly what they wanted out of a home opener on Friday. They skirted past the Peoria Panthers 23-20. For those keeping track at home, that's the closest victory the Skyhawks have posted since September 12, 2024.

Among those leading the charge was Gavin Youngker, who threw for 235 yards and one touchdown.

Special teams also played a big role in the game for Deer Valley, adding 11 points to the final score. All those points came courtesy of Austan Chaves: he added nine points with three field goals and another two kicking extra points.

Peoria's loss came despite a true team effort from the offense with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Javon Bell, who rushed for 165 yards. Dominic Kramer was another key player, throwing for 160 yards and three TDs.

Looking ahead, Deer Valley will challenge Goldwater at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. As for Peoria, they will square off against Kellis at 7:00 p.m. on Friday.
