Baseball Recap: Christian Takes a Loss

Christian extended their losing streak to eight on Tuesday, dropping their season record down to 12-14 in the process. They fell 7-2 to the Madison Warhawks. Unfortunately, that's the second time they've come up short against the Warhawks this season, as they also lost their prior matchup 2-1 on Monday.

Logan Major was huge no matter where he played even without the win. He tossed six innings while giving up just two earned (and one unearned) runs off four hits. He also tossed a walk, which is notable because Christian is 5-2 when he allows at most one walk, but 7-12 otherwise. Major was also big at the plate, going a perfect 2-for-2 with one stolen base and one run.

Major wasn't the only one making solid contact as four players wound up with at least one hit. One of them was Joey Nunez, who went 1-for-2 with one run.

As for Madison, the win made it two in a row for them and bumps their season record up to 21-6. Those victories came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered a grand total of 3 runs in those games.

Like Christian, Madison also got a great game from a two-way player: Jorge Luque. He looked comfortable on the mound, pitching one inning while giving up no earned runs or hits. Luque has been nothing but reliable: he hasn't given up more than two walks in seven consecutive appearances. He was also solid in the batter's box, going 2-for-4 with two RBI. That's the most RBI he has posted since back in April.

In other pitching news, Colin Gallagher tossed a big game, striking out eight batters over six innings while giving up just one earned (and one unearned) run off six hits.

Back at the plate, the team relied heavily on Jack O'Toole, who went 1-for-3 with one home run and one stolen base. Another player making a difference was Landis Nguyen, who went 2-for-3 with one run and one RBI.

The teams didn't have to wait long for a rematch: Madison beat Christian by a score of 8-2 on Thursday.
