Whitehall was handed a heart-breaking two-run defeat in their last matchup, but they sure didn't let that happen against Pocono Mountain East on Saturday. The Zephyrs' pitcher stepped up to hand the Cardinals a 6-0 shutout. The result was nothing new for the Zephyrs, who have now won five contests by six runs or more so far this season.
Morgan Laub made a big impact no matter where she played. On the mound, she didn't allow a single earned run over seven innings pitched. She has been nothing but reliable: she hasn't tossed less than five strikeouts in five consecutive appearances. She was also big at the plate, getting on base in all three of her plate appearances with two RBI.
In other batting news, Jules Muth was excellent, getting on base in all three of her plate appearances with one run and one double.
Whitehall's win bumped their record up to 7-3. As for Pocono Mountain East, they have been struggling recently as they've lost three of their last four games. That's put a noticeable dent in their 6-4 record this season.
We've got plenty of inter-conference action coming up soon. Whitehall will take on rival Emmaus at 4:00 p.m. on Monday. The two teams have allowed few runs on average (the Zephyrs 3.3, the Hornets 2.4) so any runs scored will be well earned. Meanwhile, Pocono Mountain East is set to square off against their familiar foe Northampton at 4:00 p.m. on Monday.
