Football Recap: Veterans Memorial Extends Winning Streak to Three

Veterans Memorial strolled into their game on Thursday with a perfect record and they left with the same. They blew past the Rio Grande City Rattlers 53-27. Given the Chargers' advantage in MaxPreps' Texas football rankings (they are ranked 309th, while the Rattlers are ranked 983rd) , the win wasn't entirely unexpected.

Multiple players turned in solid performances to lead Veterans Memorial to victory, but perhaps none more so than Calvin Trevillion, who rushed for 217 yards and four TDs on only eight carries. Trevillion also put in work on the defensive side of the ball, forcing one fumble and making four total tackles. Cesar Belmontes was another key back, rushing for 186 yards and a pair of scores on only 14 carries.

They were just one part of a punishing run game: Veterans Memorial was unstoppable on the ground and finished the game with 500 rushing yards. That's the most rushing yards they've posted since back in October of 2024.
