Football Game Preview: Holmdel Hornets vs. Brick Memorial Mustangs

The Holmdel Hornets will take on the Brick Memorial Mustangs at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. Given that the two teams suffered a loss in their last games, they both have a little extra motivation heading into this game.

On Friday, Holmdel and Red Bank Catholic were almost perfectly matched up, but Holmdel suffered a 29-28 loss. The loss was the Hornets' first of the season.

Meanwhile, Brick Memorial was just a hair shy of victory on Friday and fell 15-14 to Donovan Catholic. The Mustangs gained 131 more yards on the day, but it was the Griffins that made the best use of them.

Defeat or not, Brick Memorial got some senior leadership from Nazeer Whittaker and Jason Lajara. Whittaker gained 131 total yards and two touchdowns, while Lajara threw for 130 yards and two TDs.

Brick Memorial's loss was their first in the league, dropping their league record down to 2-1 and their overall record down to 3-2. As for Holmdel, their defeat was their first of the season and makes their record 3-1.
