Baseball Preview: Providence School Stallions vs. St. Johns Country Day Spartans

The Providence School Stallions will head out on the road to challenge the St. Johns Country Day Spartans at 6:30 p.m. on Thursday. Providence School is strutting in with some hitting muscle, as they've averaged 6.6 runs per game this season.

Last Friday, it was a hard-fought contest, but Providence School had to settle for an 8-7 loss against North Marion. Providence School has now taken an 'L' in back-to-back games.

Providence School got a massive performance out of Nick Oliveira, who went 1-for-3 with a home run and three RBI. The team also got some help courtesy of Andrew Johnson, who went 2-for-4 with a home run and two runs.

Even though they lost, Providence School lost a few balls and finished the game with three home runs. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as North Marion didn't launched any.

Meanwhile, there's no place like home for St. Johns Country Day, who bounced back after a tough loss on the road on Saturday. Their pitchers stepped up to hand Yulee a 4-0 shutout on Tuesday.

St. Johns Country Day also got a great performance from Austin Stratman as he kept things locked down with no earned runs or hits while striking out eight over 5.2 innings pitched.

On the hitting side, Preston Cole was excellent, going 1-for-2 with a home run and two RBI. Another player making a difference was Seth Alford, who scored a run while getting on base in all three of his plate appearances.

Providence School's defeat dropped their record down to 11-8. As for St. Johns Country Day, their win was their fifth straight at home, which pushed their record up to 16-4.

The batters for both teams will have to hit smart on Thursday as both have some strikeout artists on the roster. Providence School has been retiring batters left and right this season, having averaged 7.9 strikeouts per game. However, it's not like St. Johns Country Day struggles in that department as they've been averaging 9. Considering how easily both teams rack up Ks, the hitters on both teams better bring their A-game into this one.
