Softball Recap: Vermilion Sailors vs. Edison Chargers
Vermilion had lost four straight on the road, but on Wednesday they dropped their record down to 1-7 to make it five. They came up short against the Edison Chargers, falling 23-1. Having soared to a lofty 16 runs in the game before, the Sailors couldn't push the score so high this time.
Vermilion saw two different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Abby Gawry, who went a perfect 2-for-2 with one stolen base.
As for Edison, the victory was the fifth in a row for them, bringing their record up to 14-5. The wins came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 1.8 runs on average over those games.
On Edison's side, Abby Cloud made a splash no matter where she played. On the mound, she struck out eight batters over three innings while giving up just one earned run off three hits. Both squads will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Vermilion will head out to square off against Firelands at 5:00 p.m. on Friday. As for Edison, they will venture away from home to face off against Sandusky at 4:45 a.m. on Thursday.
