Volleyball Recap: Irvington Vikings vs. Newark Memorial Cougars

Irvington lost against Newark Memorial back in September and unfortunately they wound up with the same result on Thursday. The Vikings fell just short of the Cougars by a score of 3-2. While the Vikings didn't get the win, they did start the game off strong, beating the Cougars 25-19 in the first set.

Irvington actually scored more points across those five sets (114-113), but sadly they still had to settle for second. The match finished with set scores of 19-25, 25-22, 28-26, 23-25, 18-16.

Newark Memorial's win was a true team effort, with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Camille Walker, who had 19 digs. Those 19 digs gave Walker a new career-high.

Irvington is on a four-game losing streak that has dropped them down to 4-13. As for Newark Memorial, their victory ended a five-match drought at home and bumped them up to 11-15.

We've got plenty of inter-league action coming up soon. Irvington is set to take on their familiar foe Moreau Catholic at 6:30 p.m. on Tuesday. Meanwhile, Newark Memorial will square off against rival Mission San Jose at 6:30 p.m. on Tuesday.
