Softball Game Preview: Bridgeport Indians vs. University Hawks

Bridgeport hasn't had much luck against University recently, but that could start to change on Thursday. The Indians will host the Hawks at 5:00 p.m. Bridgeport has given up an average of 13.7 runs per game this season, but Thursday's game will give them a chance to turn things around.

Friday just wasn't the day for Bridgeport's offense. They came up short against Doddridge County on Friday, falling 15-0. The Indians have now taken an 'L' in back-to-back games.

Meanwhile, University faced Wheeling Park in a battle between two of the state's top teams on Wednesday. The Hawks put the hurt on the Patriots with a sharp 13-4 victory. The result was nothing new for the Hawks, who have now won five contests by eight runs or more so far this season.

Maddie Campbell was a major factor no matter where she played. She struck out nine batters over seven innings while giving up three earned (and one unearned) runs off five hits. Campbell was also big at the plate, scoring three runs while going 3-for-4.

In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Whitney Cox, who went 3-for-4 with four RBI, two runs, and one triple. Those four RBI gave her a new career-high. Another player making a difference was Lexi Elza, who went 3-for-4 with three runs and one triple.

University pushed their record up to 9-1 with the win, which was their tenth straight on the road dating back to last season. Those road victories came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 3.1 runs on average this season. As for Bridgeport, their loss dropped their record down to 2-4.
