Baseball Recap: Umatilla Victorious

It may have taken eight innings to finish the job, but Umatilla ultimately got the result they hoped for on Saturday. They won by a run and slipped past the Nyssa Bulldogs 2-1. For the Vikings, this counts as revenge for the 7-6 win the Bulldogs walked away with the last time they faced one another back in April of 2024.

Umatilla let Dominick McCallister and Rj Estrada run wild. McCallister went a perfect 2-for-2 with three stolen bases, while Estrada went 2-for-3 with two stolen bases and one RBI. Umatilla is 7-2 when Estrada posts two or more stolen bases, but 3-4 otherwise. Another player making a difference was Linkin Zamudio, who went 2-for-3 with one double and one RBI.

Umatilla's victory bumped their record up to 10-6. As for Nyssa, their loss was their eighth straight on the road, which dropped their record down to 2-16.

The teams didn't have to wait long for a rematch: Umatilla beat the Bulldogs by a score of 9-8 later that day.
