Basketball Recap: Evergreen Piles Up the Points Against the Academy

It was a proper cat-fight when Evergreen took on The Academy on Wednesday. The Cougars breezed past the Wildcats to the tune of 69-40.

Evergreen's success was the result of a balanced attack that saw several players step up, but Roby Mitchem led the charge by going 6-for-10 from beyond the arc to rack up 22 points in addition to six rebounds and three steals. That's the most boards Mitchem has posted since back in December of 2024. The team also got some help courtesy of Xavier Spungin, who dropped a double-double with 16 points and ten rebounds.

Despite the loss, The Academy still got an impressive performance from Dominik Konarski, who shot 55% from the field on his way to 12 points. Konarski is on a roll when it comes to shooting accuracy, as he's posted one of at least 55% in the last five games he's played dating back to last season. Isaiah Ramirez was another key player, putting up two points.

The win got Evergreen back to even at 1-1. As for The Academy, their defeat dropped their record down to an identical 1-1.

Looking ahead, Evergreen will take on Brighton at 3:30 p.m. on Friday. As for The Academy, they will head out on the road to square off against Skyline at 8:00 p.m. on Friday.
