Baseball Game Preview: Mathews Blue Devils vs. West Point Pointers

The Mathews Blue Devils will head out on the road to square off against the West Point Pointers at 6:00 p.m. on Tuesday. Mathews is strutting in with some hitting muscle as they've averaged 7.6 runs per game this season.

West Point will be up against a hot Mathews team: the squad just extended their winning streak to three. The Blue Devils were the clear victors by a 13-1 margin over Northampton on Friday. Considering the Blue Devils have won six contests by more than five runs this season, Friday's blowout was nothing new.

Jordyn Cosby was a standout: he went 2-for-4 with three runs, one triple, and one RBI. He has become a key player for Mathews: the team is undefeated when he posts at least two runs, but 4-7 otherwise. Another player making a difference was Cam Mathews, who got on base in three of his four plate appearances with one stolen base, one run, and one RBI.

Mathews always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .550. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Northampton only posted an OBP of .280.

Meanwhile, West Point fell victim to King William and their airtight pitching crew on Tuesday. They lost 22-0 to the Cavaliers. The Pointers have now taken an 'L' in back-to-back games.

Mathews' win bumped their record up to 9-7. As for West Point, their defeat dropped their record down to 2-11.

Everything went Mathews' way against West Point in their previous meeting back in April, as Mathews made off with a 16-6 victory. The rematch might be a little tougher for the Blue Devils since the team won't have the home-field advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
