Basketball Recap: Brennan Deeter's Big Game Can't Quite Lead Lewis Cass over Oak Hill

Lewis Cass and Oak Hill squared off in some playoff action on Friday, but Lewis Cass had to settle for second. They fell 55-46 to the Oak Hill Golden Eagles. While losing is never fun, the Kings can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' Indiana basketball rankings (they are ranked 357th, while the Golden Eagles are ranked 132nd).

Lewis Cass lost despite a true team effort on offense. The best among them was Brennan Deeter, who posted 13 points. Another player making a difference was Trey Johnson, who scored ten points and five boards.

Even though they lost, Lewis Cass was working as a unit and finished the game with 12 assists. The team's really been improving in that area: they've now improved their assist total in four consecutive matches.

Oak Hill's win was a true team effort, with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was RJ Shugart, who shot 62% from the field to rack up 23 points. Shugart continues to improve, besting his previous point total in each of the last three games he's played. Jace Tonagel was another key player, almost dropping a double-double with 12 points and nine assists.

Lewis Cass' defeat dropped their record down to 6-18. As for Oak Hill, the victory was the fourth in a row for them, bringing their record for this year to 17-6.

Lewis Cass does not have any more games scheduled as of now. As for Oak Hill, they didn't take long to hit the court again: they've already played their next contest, a 70-38 loss against Manchester on the 8th.
