Football Recap: Tooele Comes Up Short

Tooele extended their losing streak to six on Wednesday, dropping them down to 2-8. They were outmatched by the Sky View Bobcats and fell 55-27. If the Buffaloes were looking for revenge after losing 38-14 to the Bobcats when the teams met back in August of 2018, then they'll just have to keep looking.

Tooele lost despite a true team effort on offense. The best among them was Gus Pater, who rushed for 94 yards and one touchdown on only nine carries, and also threw for 183 yards and a pair of TDs. His longest rush was for an impressive 59 yards, which helps to explain his lofty yards per carry total. Mavrik Chlarson was another key player, picking up 117 receiving yards and a pair of scores.

As for Sky View, their win was their fourth straight on the road, which pushed their record up to 6-4. Those road victories came thanks in part to their defensive effort, having only surrendered 12.8 points on average over those games.

Jack Clark produced another solid performance throwing for 410 yards and three TDs while completing 84.2% of his passes, and also punching in one touchdown on the ground. His passing game has become a key predictor of Sky View's success: the team is undefeated when his passer rating is 110 or higher, but only 2-4 otherwise. Another player making a difference was Zachary Oxborrow, who picked up 158 receiving yards and a pair of scores.

Looking ahead, Tooele will challenge Skyline at 6:00 p.m. on the 24th. As for Sky View, they will square off against Juan Diego Catholic at 4:00 p.m. on the 24th. The Bobcats will be up against the Soaring Eagle's rather soft defense (which has allowed 42.78 points per game), so fans could be in store for a big offensive performance.
