Baseball Preview: Arizona College Prep Knights vs. Erie Tigers
The Arizona College Prep Knights will take on the Erie Tigers at 11:00 a.m. on Friday. Expect the scorekeeper to be kept busy: if their previous games are any indication, the two teams will really light up the scoreboard.
Arizona College Prep picked up another tournament win on Thursday. They blew past Niwot 13-4. The result was nothing new for the Knights, who have now won four games by nine runs or more so far this season.
Clayton Nachman looked comfortable as he tossed four innings while giving up just two earned runs off three hits.
On the hitting side, the team relied heavily on Porter Creal, who went 2-for-3 with one home run, four RBI, and two runs. That home run marked the first that he launched this season. The team also got some help courtesy of Jaden Guglielmo, who scored two runs and stole Three bases. while going 1-for-4.
Meanwhile, Erie made easy work of Galena on Thursday and carried off a 14-6 win. The victory made it back-to-back wins for the Tigers.
Maddox Burnett made a splash no matter where he played. He looked comfortable on the mound, striking out seven batters over five innings while giving up just two earned (and one unearned) runs off four hits. Burnett was also solid in the batter's box, scoring a run and stealing a base while going 1-for-4.
In other batting news, Erie got a massive performance out of Jack Carnival, who got on base in all four of his plate appearances with one home run and three runs. Another player making a difference was Ronin Ward, who went 3-for-5 with three runs, one triple, and two RBI.
Arizona College Prep is on a roll lately: they've won six of their last seven matches. That's provided a nice bump to their 8-2 record this season. Those victories came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 10.7 runs over those games. Erie's record now sits at 2-0.
