Football Game Preview: Pittsburg Pirates vs. Marin Catholic Wildcats

The Pittsburg Pirates will challenge the Marin Catholic Wildcats at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. Keep an eye on the score for this one: the two teams posted some lofty point totals in their previous games.

Two weeks ago, Pittsburg came up short against Archbishop Riordan and fell 42-35. Despite running the score up even higher than they did in their prior game on September 6th (31), the Pirates still had to take the loss.

Despite the defeat, Pittsburg got top-tier performance from Rj Mosley, who picked up 257 receiving yards and two touchdowns. Mosley showed off some serious burst, lighting up the secondary with a catch for 68 yards. The team also got some help courtesy of Kenneth Ward, who picked up 95 receiving yards and one score.

Special teams also deserves some recognition, posting 11 points in total. The biggest highlight from special teams (and perhaps the team as a whole) came courtesy of Ward, who ran a kickoff back for a touchdown.

Meanwhile, winning is always nice, but doing so behind a season-high score is even better (just ask Marin Catholic). They breezed past Tamalpais to the tune of 40-7 on Saturday. The final result isn't all that surprising considering the Wildcats' considerable advantage in MaxPreps' California football rankings (they are ranked 88th, while the Red Tailed Hawks are ranked 437th).

Marin Catholic's first victory this season bumped their record up to 1-3. As for Pittsburg, their loss was their first of the season and makes their record 2-1.
