Recap: Island Coast Gators vs. Ida Baker Bulldogs
The Island Coast Gators lost against the Ida Baker Bulldogs back in January of 2023, and unfortunately they wound up with the same result on Thursday. Island Coast was dealt a 54-13 defeat at the hands of Ida Baker. The result shouldn't come as a shock considering that's the fewest points Island Coast has scored all season.
It was another big night for Maia Berdebes, who scored 24 points along with six rebounds and five steals for Ida Baker. The contest was Berdebes' fifth in a row with at least ten points. Another player making a difference was Makayla Nieves, who scored 13 points along with nine rebounds and three steals.
Island Coast has not been sharp recently, as they've lost five of their last six matchups, which put a noticeable dent in their 3-7 record this season. As for Ida Baker, the win (which was their fourth in a row) raised their record to 7-2.
Both squads will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Island Coast will square off against Cape Coral at 6:00 p.m. on Tuesday. Cape Coral is on a three-game streak of home losses, Island Coast a seven-game streak of away losses (dating back to last season), but someone's luck is about to change. Ida Baker's road trip will continue as they head out to face Lehigh at 6:30 p.m. on January 10th.
