Baseball Recap: Fountain Central Takes a Loss

Fountain Central extended their losing streak to four on Thursday, dropping their season record down to 5-18 in the process. They lost 19-5 to the Delphi Community Oracles. The result was an unpleasant reminder to the Mustangs of the 10-3 loss they experienced in the pair's previous head-to-head fixture back in May of 2023.

As for Delphi Community, they have been performing well recently as they've won six of their last eight contests. That's provided a nice bump to their 16-10 record this season. Those victories came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 9.6 runs over those games.

For Delphi Community's part, the team relied heavily on Brett Huffman, who got on base in all four of his plate appearances with one home run, four runs, and one stolen base. Huffman has become a key player for the Oracles: the team is undefeated when he posts at least two runs, but 4-10 otherwise. Another player making a difference was Xaine Tessier, who got on base in all four of his plate appearances with three runs, two RBI, and one double.

Fountain Central and Delphi Community are set to take part in some playoff action in their next matches. The Mustangs will square off against North Vermillion at 2:30 p.m. on the 31st. The Falcons have struggled to contain batters this season (they've allowed 13.77 runs per game on average), something Fountain Central will no doubt try to take advantage of. As for Delphi Community, they will look to defend their home field on Friday against Clinton Central at 7:30 p.m.
