Recap: Young Americans Christian Eagles vs. Lanier Christian Academy Lightning
If the Young Americans Christian Eagles were riding high off their 61-1 takedown of the Skipstone Academy Warriors back in December of 2023, their most recent game may have dampened their spirits a bit. Young Americans Christian was the victim of a rough 55-34 loss at the hands of Lanier Christian Academy on Thursday. The defeat unfortunately continues a disappointing trend for Young Americans Christian in their matchups with Lanier Christian Academy: they've now lost seven in a row.
Despite the defeat, Young Americans Christian saw an underclassman step up: Jasmine Mingo scored 12 points. Another player making a difference was Shelby Housworth, who scored eight points.
Leading Lanier Christian Academy to victory were Ellie Roberts and Jia Thapar. Roberts scored 15 points along with five rebounds and two steals, while Thapar scored 19 points. As a matter of fact, that's the most points Roberts has scored all season. Emma Flowers was another key contributor, scoring seven points along with six assists and two steals.
Young Americans Christian has not been sharp recently, as they've lost four of their last five matchups, which put a noticeable dent in their 8-8 record this season. As for Lanier Christian Academy, the victory (which was their third in a row) raised their record to 10-6.
Both teams will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Young Americans Christian will take on Killian Hill Christian at 5:00 p.m. on Tuesday. Killian Hill Christian comes in still looking for their first win of the season. Lanier Christian Academy won't have much time to rest: their next game is against Fideles Christian at 6:30 p.m. on January 12th. Fideles Christian is also coming in off of a big victory, so somebody is in for a big reversal of fortune.
