Basketball Recap: Highlands Christian Takes a Loss

Highlands Christian managed to keep up with Pine Crest until halftime on Friday, but things quickly went downhill from there. The Highlands Christian Knights were beaten by the Pine Crest Panthers 98-69. While losing is never fun, the Knights can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' Florida basketball rankings (they are ranked 557th, while the Panthers are ranked 171st).

When it comes to explaining why Highlands Christian lost, don't look at Angel Scomparin. Despite the final result, he went 10 for 19 en route to 28 points and five rebounds. The matchup was Scomparin's 23rd in a row with at least ten points. Aydin Crawford was another key player, putting up 11 points and seven boards.

It was another big night for Rowan Hoffman, who dropped a double-double on 34 points and 21 rebounds for Pine Crest. Those 34 points gave Hoffman a new career-high. The team also got some help courtesy of Ethan Mott, who posted 28 points and seven boards.

Highlands Christian's loss dropped their record down to 10-14. As for Pine Crest, they pushed their record up to 19-5 with the victory, which was their ninth straight at home dating back to last season.

Highlands Christian has already played their next contest, an 86-80 win against Boca Raton Christian on the 3rd. As for Pine Crest, they also wasted no time getting back out on the court and have already played their next game, a 73-26 victory against North Miami Beach on the 3rd.
