Basketball Recap: Eureka's Winning Streak Snapped at Nine Games

On Saturday, Eureka faced North Valleys in a battle between two of the state's top teams. The Eureka Vandals took a blow against the North Valleys Panthers, falling 57-28. The defensive woes were uncharacteristic for the Vandals, who until this contest were averaging 20.7 points allowed.

When it comes to explaining why Eureka lost, don't look at Hannah Bliss. Despite the final result, she posted ten points and five boards. Bliss continues to improve, besting her previous point total in each of the last three games she's played.

Leading North Valleys to victory were Ivy Williams and Emily Huff. Williams earned 22 points along with eight boards and seven steals, while Huff almost dropped a double-double on 13 points and nine steals. The game was Williams' 11th in a row with at least ten points. The team also got some help courtesy of Alexys DeCremer, who put up six points and six assists.

Eureka moved to 9-1 with that loss, which also ended their nine-game winning streak. As for North Valleys, the win (which was their fifth in a row) raised their record to 8-3.

Both squads will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Eureka will have a little extra prep time after the defeat as they won't be playing again for a while. They'll take on McDermitt at 6:00 p.m. on January 3, 2025. North Valleys also won't see the court for a while: their next matchup is against Galena at 2:00 p.m. on January 4, 2025.
