Baseball Recap: Purnell Swett Has No Trouble Against Hoke County

Purnell Swett barely beat Hoke County the last time the pair played, but that sure wasn't the case this time around. The Rams were the clear victors by a 13-3 margin over the Bucks on Wednesday. The result was nothing new for the Rams, who have now won six contests by seven runs or more so far this season.

Jaythan Locklear looked comfortable as he tossed four innings while giving up just one earned (and one unearned) run off two hits. He has become a key player for Purnell Swett: the team is undefeated when he allows at most one earned run, but 7-9 otherwise.

On the hitting side, Purnell Swett got a massive performance out of Joseden Oxendine, who scored two runs while going 3-for-4. The Rams are 3-1 when Oxendine posts two or more runs, but 7-8 otherwise. Another player making a difference was Grayson Brooks, who scored three runs and stole two bases while going 1-for-1.

Purnell Swett always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .548. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Hoke County only posted an OBP of .320.

Purnell Swett now has a winning record of 10-9. As for Hoke County, their defeat was their sixth straight on the road, which dropped their record down to 2-19.

Looking ahead, Purnell Swett will take on East Columbus at 4:00 p.m. on Saturday. The Gators will roll in looking for their fourth straight victory, something the Rams surely won't give up without a fight. Hoke County does not have any more games scheduled as of now.
