Baseball Game Preview: Woodland Dragons vs. Machias Bulldogs

The Woodland Dragons are taking a road trip to challenge the Machias Bulldogs at 4:00 p.m. on Wednesday. One thing working in Woodland's favor is that they have posted at least ten runs in their last six games.

Last Wednesday, Woodland made easy work of Penobscot Valley and carried off a 12-2 victory. The result was nothing new for the Dragons, who have now won seven matchups by eight runs or more so far this season.

Gaige Farrar spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: he surrendered only one earned (and one unearned) run on four hits and racked up nine Ks. He has been nothing but reliable: he hasn't given up more than one earned run in three consecutive appearances.

On the hitting side, Woodland got a massive performance out of Micah Chesebrough, who went 2-for-4 with one home run, three RBI, and two runs. Another player making a difference was Isaac Downing, who got on base in four of his five plate appearances with three stolen bases, two runs, and one RBI.

They weren't the only ones making solid contact: Woodland kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 11 hits. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now got at least nine hits in four consecutive contests.

Meanwhile, winning is always nice, but doing so behind a season-high score is even better (just ask Machias). Their pitchers stepped up to hand Shead a 20-0 shutout on Monday. The team's explosion at the plate also rewarded the Bulldogs with their most commanding win of the season.

Woodland has been performing incredibly well recently as they've won six of their last seven games. That's provided a nice bump to their 8-3 record this season. The wins came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 11.6 runs over those games. As for Machias, they now have a winning record of 5-4.

Woodland couldn't quite get it done against Machias in their previous meeting back in April as they fell 7-2. Can the Dragons avenge their loss or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
