Basketball Recap: Briana Meza and Jocelyn Umiker Secure Win for Wright

Wright won the last time they faced Shoshoni and things went their way on Friday too. The Wright Panthers strolled past the Shoshoni Wranglers with points to spare, taking the game 51-32. The Panthers pushed the score to 42-20 by the end of the third, a deficit the Wranglers cut but never quite recovered from.

Leading Wright to victory were Jocelyn Umiker and Briana Meza. Umiker dropped a double-double on 24 points and 11 boards, while Meza almost dropped a double-double on 16 points and nine steals. Meza is on a roll when it comes to steals, as she's now grabbed two or more in the last seven games she's played.

Wright smashed the offensive glass and finished the game with 22 offensive boards. That's the most offensive boards they've managed all season.

Shoshoni's loss came despite strong showings from Kaylor McConnaughey and Megan Harris. McConnaughey posted eight points along with ten boards and seven assists, while Harris had eight points in addition to eight rebounds and three blocks. Those seven assists gave McConnaughey a new career-high.

The victory got Wright back to even at 5-5. As for Shoshoni, this is the second loss in a row for them and nudges their season record down to 5-4.

Wright didn't take long to hit the court again: they've already played their next match, a 63-39 defeat against Hot Springs County on the 11th. As for Shoshoni, they also wasted no time getting back out on the court and have already played their next contest, a 43-35 loss against Big Horn on the 11th.
