Softball Recap: Jones Comes Up Short

It's hard to turn regular season success into postseason wins, a fact Jones can now relate to. They fell just short of the Needville Bluejays by a score of 4-2 on Saturday. Unfortunately, that's the third time they've come up short against the Bluejays this season, with their most recent defeat being a 12-0 loss on Saturday.

Maya Castillo spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered four earned runs on five hits. She has been consistent: she hasn't given up more than two walks in six consecutive appearances.

At the plate, Shelby Gutirrez made the most of her time at bat despite the final result and went 3-for-4 with two RBI.

This is the second loss in a row for Jones and nudges their season record down to 11-18. As for Needville, they are on a roll lately: they've won 20 of their last 21 matches. That's provided a nice bump to their 24-5 record this season.

As of now, neither Jones nor Needville have any future games scheduled.
