Softball Recap: Mesa Jackrabbits vs. Skyline Coyotes
Mesa extended their losing streak to ten on Thursday, dropping them down to 1-11. They came up short against the Skyline Coyotes, falling 24-14. The Jackrabbits were not able to make up for their loss to the Coyotes from their previous meeting back in April of 2025.
Mesa got a massive performance out of Daniela Beltran, who got on base in three of her five plate appearances with three stolen bases, three RBI, and two runs. Amelia Silvas also deserves some recognition as she hit her first triple of the season.
As for Skyline, their record now sits at 6-11. Their hitters stepped up their game for this one, as that was the most runs they've scored all season.
On Skyline's side, Layla Kunkel and Kailey Meyer did most of the damage at the plate: Kunkel went 4-for-5 with five runs, four RBI, and one stolen base, while Meyer went 5-for-6 with six RBI and three runs. Those four hits gave Kunkel a new career-high. Another player making a difference was Lilly Leon-Valenzuela, who got on base in four of her six plate appearances with three runs, two RBI, and one double.
Coincidentally, Mesa and Skyline will both be playing Westwood the next time they take the field. The Jackrabbits will host the Warriors at 3:45 p.m. on Monday, while the Coyotes will head out to face them at 6:00 p.m. on Tuesday.
