Softball Game Preview: Capuchino Mustangs vs. Carlmont Scots

Capuchino and Carlmont are an even 5-5 against one another since April of 2019, but likely not for long. The Mustangs are taking a road trip to square off against the Scots at 4:00 p.m. on Thursday. Capuchino will be strutting in after a win while Carlmont will be coming in after a loss.

Carlmont will face off against a team with plenty of momentum: Capuchino extended their winning streak to three on Tuesday. Everything went the Mustangs' way against Aragon as they made off with an 11-4 victory. 11 seems to be a good number for the Mustangs as the team scooped up a win with the same number of runs in their previous game.

Lola Sierra spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered just two earned (and two unearned) runs on seven hits and racked up ten Ks. With that strong performance, she is now averaging an impressive 5.2 strikeouts per game.

On the hitting side, Capuchino let Star Gutierrez and Avery Motroni run wild. Gutierrez went 1-for-2 with one home run and four RBI, while Motroni went 3-for-4 with one home run, two runs, and two RBI. Another player making a difference was Brianna Lopiccolo, who went 1-for-4 with one home run and two RBI.

They weren't the only ones working in the home run department: Capuchino lost a few balls and finished the game with three home runs. That's the most home runs they've managed all season.

Meanwhile, Carlmont didn't have quite enough to beat Woodside on Tuesday and fell 3-2.

Capuchino pushed their record up to 8-4 with the victory, which was their third straight at home. The home wins came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 9.0 runs over those games. As for Carlmont, their defeat dropped their record down to 5-10.

Capuchino came up short against Carlmont in their previous meeting back in April of 2024, falling 6-2. Can the Mustangs avenge their loss or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
