Kingsway waltzed into their match on Tuesday with six straight wins... but they left with seven. They put the hurt on the Toms River North Mariners with a sharp 14-3 win. The Dragons might be getting used to big wins seeing as the team has won nine games by six runs or more this season.
Dylan Potero made a big impact while hitting and pitching. He struck out six batters over four innings while giving up just two earned (and one unearned) runs off six hits (and only one walk). He has been consistent: he hasn't given up more than two walks in five consecutive appearances. He was also solid in the batter's box, going 2-for-3 with one home run. Those two hits gave him a new career-high.
In other pitching news, AJ Aimis looked comfortable as he pitched one inning while giving up no earned runs or hits. What's more, he posted three strikeouts, the most he's had since back in April.
Back at the plate, Kingsway got a massive performance out of Kyle Shields, who went a perfect 3-for-3 with three RBI, two runs, and one stolen base. The team also got some help courtesy of Dylan Rickards, who went a perfect 2-for-2 with three runs, one stolen base, and one RBI.
Kingsway always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .679. That's the best OBP they've posted all season.
Kingsway's victory was their fifth straight at home, which pushed their record up to 18-6-1. Those home wins came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 2.4 runs on average over those games. As for Toms River North, they are on a three-game losing streak that has dropped them down to 8-13.
Coming up, Kingsway will be playing in front of their home fans against Timber Creek Regional at 4:00 p.m. on Wednesday. Toms River North does not have any more games scheduled as of now.
