The Greenon Knights will face off against the Fairbanks Panthers at 5:00 p.m. on Monday. Greenon hasn't scored more than two runs for three games straight, a trend the squad is eager to reverse.
Greenon fell victim to Triad and their airtight pitching crew on Friday. They came up short against the Cardinals, falling 8-0. That's two games in a row now that the Knights have lost by exactly eight runs.
Greenon saw two different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Carson Fields, who went 1-for-3 with one double.
Meanwhile, Fairbanks can bid farewell to their five-game losing streak thanks to their game on Friday. They came out on top against Southeastern Local by a score of 9-4. Give some credit to the fans of both teams: the last five times they've met, the home team has come away the winner.
Dayne Madison spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: he surrendered just two earned (and two unearned) runs on five hits.
At the plate, Carson Reames was a standout: he got on base in all four of his plate appearances with two stolen bases and three runs. Those three runs gave him a new career-high. Another player making a difference was Mason Rausch, who went 2-for-3 with two runs, one stolen base, and one RBI.
Fairbanks was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .400. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Southeastern Local only posted a batting average of .259.
Fairbanks' win bumped their record up to 6-10. As for Greenon, their defeat dropped their record down to 4-15.
Greenon's speedy runners might be the difference in Monday's match. The Knights have been swiping bases left and right this season, having averaged 3.1 stolen bases per game. It's a different story for Fairbanks, though, as they've been averaging only 1.4 stolen bases. Will they be able to secure the bases, or will Greenon continue to outrun the ball?
Everything went Greenon's way against Fairbanks in their previous meeting back in April of 2024, as Greenon made off with an 11-5 victory. Will the Knights repeat their success, or do the Panthers have a new game plan this time around? We'll find out soon enough.
