Baseball Game Preview: Highlands Bluebirds vs. Beechwood Tigers

The Highlands Bluebirds will challenge the Beechwood Tigers at 5:00 p.m. on Tuesday. The two teams have allowed few runs on average (Highlands 3.6, Beechwood 3.5) so any runs scored will be well earned.

Highlands fell victim to Ryle and their airtight pitching crew on Monday. They lost 8-0 to the Raiders. The loss continues a trend for the Bluebirds in their meetings with the Raiders: they've now lost three in a row.

The home team had won the previous four meetings between Beechwood and Cooper, and Beechwood kept the tradition alive. The Tigers won by a run and slipped past the Jaguars 8-7.

Austin Stephenson looked comfortable as he tossed two innings while giving up no earned runs off one hit.

On the hitting side, the team relied heavily on Sawyer Carlisle, who got on base in all four of his plate appearances with two runs. The team also got some help courtesy of Carson Welch, who went 1-for-3 with four RBI and one double.

Beechwood is on a roll lately: they've won 14 of their last 18 games. That's provided a nice bump to their 19-8 record this season. Those victories came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 3.2 runs on average over those games. As for Highlands, their defeat dropped their record down to 17-8-2.

Highlands couldn't quite get it done against Beechwood in their previous matchup back in March as they fell 9-6. Can the Bluebirds avenge their loss or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
