Softball Game Preview: Canyon Ridge Riverhawks vs. Minico Spartans

The Canyon Ridge Riverhawks will square off against the Minico Spartans at 3:00 p.m. on Thursday. The two teams have had a bumpy ride up to this point with eight consecutive losses for Canyon Ridge and 16 for Minico.

The home team had won the previous four meetings between Canyon Ridge and Burley, and Burley kept the tradition alive. The Riverhawks came up short against the Bobcats on Tuesday, falling 10-3.

Audrey Wood made the most of her time at bat despite the final result and went a perfect 4-for-4 with one stolen base and one run.

Minico couldn't beat Wood River on Thursday even though they stacked five runs on them in the third inning. The Spartans lost 23-6 to the Wolverines.

Minico saw five different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Madi Fowler, who went 2-for-3 with one run, one double, and one RBI. Another was Nye Salinas, who got on base in two of her three plate appearances with two stolen bases and one run.

Minico's loss dropped their record down to 2-16. As for Canyon Ridge, their defeat dropped their record down to 1-13.

Everything went Canyon Ridge's way against Minico when the teams last played back in April of 2024, as Canyon Ridge made off with an 18-3 win. The rematch might be a little tougher for the Riverhawks since the squad won't have the home-field advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
