Head coach Tom Izzo of Michigan State landed his first Class of 2017 recruit Thursday with a commitment from five-star forward Jaren Jackson of La Lumiere (LaPorte, Ind.).

Regarded as the No. 22 overall prospect in the senior class by 247Sports, Jackson is in his first year at La Lumiere after transferring from Park Tudor (Indianapolis).

The 6-foot-10 standout averaged 16.1 points, 7.8 rebounds and 4.4 blocked shots per game as a junior at Park Tudor, helping the Panthers go 20-5.

Park Tudor won Indiana's Class 2A state title in 2014-15 with Jackson playing a significant role as a sophomore.

Thanks in part to Jackson's presence, La Lumiere is a preseason national No. 1 candidate.
