Basketball Recap: Mt. Pleasant Cardinals vs. Piedmont Hills Pirates
Mt. Pleasant played a tough contest on Tuesday in which they were outscored in every quarter. They had to suffer through a 71-38 loss at the hands of the Piedmont Hills Pirates. While losing is never fun, the Cardinals can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' California basketball rankings (they are ranked 1038th, while the Pirates are ranked 325th).
Isaiah Alvarez and Jordon Flagg certainly did their best on Tuesday to avoid the loss. Alvarez posted 14 points and three steals, while Flagg put up ten points and seven rebounds. Another player making a difference was Victor Ekwuru, who earned four points.
It was another big night for Armin D, who had 26 points for Piedmont Hills. The team also got some help courtesy of Christian A., who posted 14 points.
Mt. Pleasant dropped their record down to 4-5 with the defeat, which was their fourth straight on the road dating back to last season. As for Piedmont Hills, the win keeps them at an undefeated 5-0.
Both teams will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Mt. Pleasant will head out to square off against Gonzales at 5:30 p.m. on Saturday. Mt. Pleasant is facing Gonzales at the right time seeing as Gonzales is stuck on a three-game losing streak. Piedmont Hills and Saratoga will compete for holiday cheer at 6:00 p.m. on Saturday. Piedmont Hills knows how to get points on the board -- the squad has finished with 55 points or more in their past five matches -- so hopefully Saratoga likes a good challenge.
