It was a short, but effective night Friday for
Arch Manning. The nephew of Super Bowl-winning quarterbacks of Peyton and Eli Manning threw for 216 yards and four touchdowns in just over one half of play, leading unbeaten
Newman (New Orleans) to a 48-0 win over St. Thomas Aquinas (Hammond).
Manning, the 2019 MaxPreps National Freshman of the Year, fired an 80-yard touchdown pass to sophomore
Kai Donaldson on the first play of the third quarter and that ended his night. The Greenies (4-0) led at the time 41-0 and the rest of the game was played with a running clock.
The country's top-rated sophomore quarterback according to 247Sports finished with 10 completions on 15 attempts. For the season, he's now completed 61 of 81 passes for 928 yards, 11 touchdowns and two interceptions.
Donaldson was on the end of three of his TD passes Friday, including scores of four and seven yards in the first half. Manning's best pass was a 44-yard touchdown bomb to
A.J. Johnson with 2:59 left in the first half, making it 34-0.
Joseph Pleasant added a 19-yard touchdown run.
Pike Philibert had the play of the night on a 63-punt return to the house for Newman, which has now outscored opponents 171-29 with two shutouts. Aquinas dropped to 2-1.
Newman next plays Riverside Academy (Reserve) on Oct. 30.

Arch Manning has now thrown for 928 yards and 11 touchdowns on the season.
