Softball Preview: Nordhoff Rangers vs. Newbury Park Panthers
The Nordhoff Rangers will head out on the road to square off against the Newbury Park Panthers at 3:30 p.m. on Tuesday.
Nordhoff fell victim to Fillmore and their airtight pitching crew two weeks ago. They took a 4-0 hit to the loss column at the hands of the Flashes. The Rangers have now taken an 'L' in back-to-back games.
Meanwhile, winning is always nice, but doing so behind a season-high score is even better (just ask Newbury Park). They were the clear victors by a 17-3 margin over Santa Paula on Monday. The Panthers might be getting used to big wins seeing as the team has won eight games by six runs or more this season.
Lily Johnson was incredible, firing off two triples, five RBI, and three runs while going 5-for-5. Those five RBI gave her a new career-high. The team also got some help courtesy of Elena Melgoza, who scored three runs while going 3-for-4.
Newbury Park was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .605. That's the best batting average they've posted all season.
Nordhoff's loss dropped their record down to 1-6. As for Newbury Park, their win ended a five-game drought on the road and puts them at 11-9.
Nordhoff might still be hurting after the 10-0 defeat they got from Newbury Park in their previous meeting back in April of 2024. Can the Rangers avenge their loss or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
