Football Recap: Sandhills Valley Mavericks vs. Ravenna Bluejays
Sandhills Valley extended their losing streak (dating back to last season) to six on Friday, dropping them down to 0-5. They took a blow against the Ravenna Bluejays, falling 68-12. While losing is never fun, the Mavericks can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' Nebraska football rankings (they are ranked 130th, while the Bluejays are ranked 18th).
Although Sandhills Valley took the loss, they still got scores from Ezekiel Goosey and Cotter Johnston.
As for Ravenna, the victory keeps them at an undefeated 5-0. The result was nothing new for the Bluejays, who have now won four games by 36 points or more so far this season.
Trenton Wedemeyer had another great game (as he tends to do), throwing for 169 yards and four touchdowns while completing 75% of his passes, and also rushing for 82 yards and one TD on only seven carries. He is on a roll when it comes to passing touchdowns, as he's now passed for four or more in each of the last three games he's played. Another player making a difference was Jack Kucera, who picked up 101 receiving yards and a pair of scores.
We've got plenty of inter-district action coming up soon. Sandhills Valley will square off against rival West Holt at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. Meanwhile, Ravenna is set to take on their familiar foe Arcadia/Loup City at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. The two teams might be coming in a bit winded given these two teams combined for 887 yards in their previous games.
